The evolution from an outdated complex system to a modern streamlined platform involved rebuilding the Hungarian court system’s intranet that existed for ten years. The internal knowledge-sharing platform OBH KPIntra operated on Drupal 7 since its initial development more than ten years ago. The platform contained more than 70 content types and 60 user roles along with 60 taxonomy vocabularies and an outdated user interface that had become complicated. The platform operated exclusively inside internal networks thus requiring absolute focus on performance and usability to support daily operations.

Business Challenge

The KPIntra system gathered an enormous amount of internal content during its operation including templates and legal guides as well as forms and announcements. The system faced multiple problems that increased alongside its growing size:

  • The search function was non-functional and users found navigation to be both complex and irregular,
  • The template repository existed in multiple disorganized locations with many duplicate entries,
  • The excessive 60 user roles combined with 70 content types made the system too difficult to manage,
  • The platform presented a major problem because users found it impossible to locate needed information.

The OBH required an absolute transformation into a contemporary simplified user-friendly intranet system. Users required essential features including a unified standardized template library and instant access to internal applications and an easier site organization system.

Cheppers’s Solution

We began by performing thorough UX/UI research that included interviews and usability testing and surveys from 300 participants. We created a future-ready platform that resulted from user feedback which showed us the need for a clean and intuitive design.

Our primary focus was radical simplification:

  • The 70 content types were consolidated into 25 essential categories which made the rest unnecessary,
  • The reduction of 60 user roles into 10 groups simplified permission management,
  • The taxonomy system underwent simplification which resulted in the reduction of vocabularies to 20-25 relevant terms,
  • A thorough assessment eliminated unnecessary content which led to the development of an organized new information structure.

The system received a complete front-end makeover which included modern designs and newly designed page types to enhance user experience. An enhanced internal workflow for legislation review and feedback was implemented which provided an improved user interface compared to the previous system.

Results and Impact

The new KPIntra delivers on all fronts:

  • The simplified structure enables users from different departments to perform tasks more quickly and easily,
  • The updated navigation system along with the redesigned interface enables better content discovery,
  • The streamlined content types and user roles made the system easier to manage and reduced its complexity for administrators,
  • The new design combined with enhanced features resulted in substantial growth of user satisfaction and engagement levels.

The Hungarian court system uses KPIntra as a contemporary efficient internal communication and administration platform which functions beyond its original role as a legal document repository. The platform enables better operational performance through improved knowledge access and creates a scalable structure for future development.
