Drupalaton 2014 - how we saw it
‘This is the nicest Drupal camp I’ve ever been to.’ These words are quoted from Steve Purkiss, who told this to me on the last Drupalaton night during the cruise party. I think this describes the Drupalaton experience the best - Drupal, summer, fun at the same time.
Putting together a conference (no matter how many attendees you expect) is a tough work. I got involved in organizing Drupalaton 2014 shortly after Drupal Developer Days Szeged 2014 ended, where I was also member of the organizer team, so I still had fresh memories of how these kinds of things go. After the success of DevDays we had a lot of great people from the Drupal community who were interested in joining us at Keszthely, so all we needed to do is to prepare the best Hungarian DrupalCamp ever. Now I can proudly say that we did.
The previous Drupalaton in 2013 was a totally different event - this year we had half- and full day long workshops and trainings instead of 1,5 hour long sessions, which basically changed the face of the event. A lot of interesting and useful workshops, 4 days of code sprints, free beers, Túró Rudis and chocolate marzipan ladybugs, a new Drupalsong and a great cruise party - these are the things everyone will recall about this year’s Drupalaton.
Cheppers team was present at the event with 9 colleagues - Dávid Segesvári had a workshop about Drupal commerce, Gergely Csonka and myself were volunteering during the whole event and the rest of the colleagues were excited to join the workshops. I can safely say that everybody was having fun - meeting some Drupal rockstars of the international Drupal community was the highlight of these 4 days for us. Besides sponsoring the event on diamond level, the company allowed me to dedicate some of my business hours to work on the todos around the event and I’m really grateful for this.
Planning next year’s Drupalaton is already started - Cheppers is very excited to be part of it again and to help it realizing! We’ll let you know about it on time ;)
I personally want to say a huuuuuge thank you again to my partners in 'crime': Tamás ‘York’ Pintér, who was the mastermind and the local-do everything of the whole event, István Csáki, who helped us in creating the website and supported us with a lot else, Bálint Fekete, who we praise for his awesome online and offline designs, Gábor Hojtsy who makes event-marketing sound like a piece of cake, István 'PP' Palócz who helped us with providing financial background to the event and last but not least Tamás ‘TeeCee’ Szügyi, our photographer who documented the whole fun. See you next year!
5 team members of our company had the chance to spend 6 amazing days at this year's DrupalCon Europe. Péter Oroszvári CEO, Gergely Csonka CTO, Ákos Tóth developer, Attila Cs. Nagy developer and myself travelled to Amsterdam to meet old friends and get to know new ones.
